i3s system is generated by Hero Moto Corp India. I3S which stands for Idle Stop Start System was mainly planned in an attempt to improve the fuel efficiency of the engine and reduce gaseous exhaust production that increased levels of air toxicity and global warming. Hero started to apply this technology in Hero Splendor iSmart bikes and this technology also started the journey at the two wheeler. This system was mainly made for cars and it was never implemented in a large number of two-wheeler before Hero does, that’s why it wasn’t known to all.

This system automatically switches off the engine and it will switch back on when the rider simply press the clutch. Mainly this system puts the engine into sleep mode. The Idle Stop Start System turns off the engine after waiting for about 5 seconds, for example standing the traffic signal. The system then restarts the engine automatically as soon as the rider presses the clutch. So riders don't have to follow the routine system to re-start the engine to go forward, they just need to engage the clutch and go when they want to, that's it. This prevents running of the engine in inoperative situation and improves mileage. The i3s unit presents itself in the form of a rider select-able on-off switch located on the handlebar. A simple push of this button triggers the stop-start system.

This system is valuable to the rider in many ways. Long waits at traffic signals with the motorcycles engine running can only waste fuel but also damage the air levels surrounding the bike. Besides that running engine for long duration in a jam-packed road heat up air-cooled engines quickly and increase the temperature levels around the vehicle. The i3S technology solves these matters by improving mileage, reducing warm environment production, and extending engine life.

This entire system works depending on the condition of the battery and the electric starter. This technology works only on those bikes that have an electric starter, and requires the battery to be in perfect working condition all the times. .
