The biker community of Bangladesh and all those expecting high quality motorcycles will be happy to know that the latest import policy has allowed the import of motorcycle parts up to a maximum of 500cc. This has been confirmed through a gazette (24/04/2022) of import policy for the period 2021-2024.
The Ministry of Commerce has taken a decision in the import policy to allow the production of more engine powered motorcycles in response to the long standing demands of Bangladeshi bikes and bike related traders.
Needless to say, the maximum capacity of motorcycles that can be used in Bangladesh is 165cc where several companies have been demanding for increasing the CC limit but some companies have opposed it but most of the general biker communities have always favored high cc bikes.
What is stated in the import policy is that firstly the law enforcement agencies will be able to use the bikes with more than 165cc capacity as per their requirement. On the other hand, Individuals and general organizations, are not allowed more than 165cc at present, but anyone in charge of the company or factory can import up to 500cc motorcycle parts for production if they wish.
According to the concerned department of the ministry, one of the new issues in the import policy is to increase the engine power of motorcycles which is 165cc so far and up to 500cc is planned.
However, a prominent person associated with the motorcycle market said that even if the policy is approved, it seems to be implemented in a few steps. There is a definite indication in the policy to produce parts of more CC motorcycles in the country. In this case, approval of a few more organizations including BRTS will be required for all concerned.
