Some of us face this kind of problem during full monsoons but the fact is that this kind of problem is not as common as other common problems, so most of the times even going to the mechanic does not get the solution.
Here are some general tips from our side on what to do with a bike submerged in flood water:
• A motorcycle submerged in flood water cannot be started at all. All electrical parts and wiring sockets must be cleaned before starting.
• Take the bike/scooter to your nearest authorized service center of the brand.
• The battery terminal of the motorcycle should be kept open until it can be serviced.
• Open the engine drain nut and remove the engine oil and carburetor drain nut.
• The fuel should be removed from the fuel tank and the tank should be washed.
• Air filter should be changed. Air filter box should be cleaned.
• Brake shoes and brake oil should be changed. Brake pads should be checked.
• Clutch cable, choke cable, throttle cable, brake cable and speedo cable should be opened and cleaned.
• Remove the head light and seat and dry the water. All fuses and fuse boxes should be opened and cleaned.
• Remove the silencer pipe and spark plug and clean the water.
• The engine should be flushed to remove the water.
• Water must be removed from the ignition lock.
It would be best to get the bike serviced by the authorized dealer of the brand according to the brand of your bike instead of servicing the bike at a local mechanic and take care of everything yourself while taking the service.
