For the past few days, the situation in Bangladesh has been somewhat stagnant. The country-wide anarchy following the anti-quota movement of students has affected the motorcycle market, a situation which has caused major losses to the country's economy. Similarly, due to this situation, the country's motorcycle industry has also faced economic losses.
In the ongoing shutdown, almost all the motorcycle showrooms of all brands were closed, along with the businesses associated with these industries. This has an adverse effect on buying and selling motorcycles. Many showroom owners have suffered losses including motorcycle importer companies in the Bangladesh market.
According to current calculations, on an average, 1,000 units of motorcycles are sold from all showrooms across Bangladesh every day. Abnormal situation of the country prevails for 7 days so the sales amount in these 7 days is 7,000 units per day. The motorcycle companies have been deprived of this sale in the last 7 days which, mathematically, stands at around Taka 14 corer in the last 7 days. Besides motorcycles, other accessories like helmets, engine oil, tires, spare parts, various service centers etc. were closed for sale due to which these sectors faced losses. The loss of the motorcycle and its direct and indirect causes is estimated to be around Tk 30 crores.
The message of hope is that the curfews and shutdowns that have been in the country are gradually relaxing and there is a semblance of relief in the public mind. It is expected that the law and order of the country will improve day by day and the loss of the last 7 days will be reduced to a large extent.
