During the British sovereign time, the English introduced horse racing in our country. Watching the game and betting caused a lot of excitement. In urban areas there were racecourses. People used to come around the place, even from far away, because of the intoxication of race. Many have been lost in this game and lost everything. But the organizers have benefited. The racecourse of Rajshahi city was on the banks of Padma. Now this racecourse ground is Rajshahi Central Park. After the closure of race and a horse driven vehicle named tomtom, the racecourse ground of Rajshahi was abandoned for a long time. On that time Minister Shahid AHM Kamaruzzaman and the Deputy Commissioner Abdur Rauf made important contributions in the construction of the park here to build it as an ideal institution for the entertainment of the city dwellers. Its activities started in 1972. This park, built on about 33 acres of land, was acquired by the Rajshahi City Corporation from the district council on November 26, 1996.
The route you need to take to reach Shahid Kamaruzzaman Central Park and Zoo is approximately 3 km west from Rajshahi Saheb Bazar Zero Point. To rech this place you have to pass through CNB more a combination point of four roads. Near this place you will see the Bangladesh Bank, at the west of the tourist motel this park is placed, which is the east of the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner's Office and the Rajshahi Police Line. The park can be seen from the road on the north side of the main road. While you are off to Kamaruzzaman Central Park within these 3 km you can see a lot of things from your bike.
On the way you will see Rajshahi College, Fire Service, Now-Government Degree College, CNB, Bangladesh Bank, Mission Hospital and then Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Central Park and Zoo. You can also reach this place from Rajshahi Rail gate. Going straight from rail gate to the Laxmipur main road this destination can be reached as well. Once you cross the Laxmipur area, take the first right from CNB Mor and from there on the left hand side of the road you will find Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Central Park.
