University of Rajshahi located in Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh, is also renowned as Cambridge University of the East is the second largest university in our country. Rajshahi University was established on 6th July 1953. The university is located on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway, 5 km from Rajshahi city. On February 18, 1969, the name of Rajshahi University was added to the history of the freedom fighting in exchange for the life of Mohammad Shamsuzzoha the University Proctor and a popular personality. In front of the administrative building-1 Tomb of Mohammad Shamsuzzoha is located. Rajshahi University Campus covers an area of about 753 acres or 304 hectares. The educational activities of Rajshahi University that are being conducted at present has 5 higher research institutes, 56 departments under 9 faculties. This University has many ancient monuments and sculptures. If you enter through the main gate of Rajshahi University, you will first see the Sabas Bangladesh sculpture, which is a monument of our great liberation war. If you go a little in front of the administrative building-1 you will face the tomb of Mohammad Shamsuzzoha on the right side, one can see the Golden Jubilee Tower commemorating the golden jubilee of the establishment of Rajshahi University as well. In front of this Golden Jubilee Tower the beautiful Paris Road, which is one of the most beautiful roads in Bangladesh will pass though the left. This Paris Road looks most beautiful on a rainy afternoon. Paris Road is full of old trees on both sides. The feeling of riding a bike on this Paris Road is really different.
There is also a Shaheed Minar Complex. It is located in front of the Administrative Building-2 and in front of the University Central Mosque. There we have Shaheed Minar, Shaheed Memorial Museum, two murals and an open stage. Note that this is a Wi-Fi zone that is free for all. In front of the Shaheed Minar there is a mosque covering a beautiful large area. Among other beautiful mosques, the mosque of Rajshahi University can be placed in the first row. Meanwhile, there is also Vidyargha, which was built during the war of liberation in memory of Habibur Rahman, a teacher of Mathematics Department. It is located in the premises of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall. A place named Bodhovumi is located in a short distance from the University campus. It is about half a kilometer away from Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall of Rajshahi University.
If you want to go to Rajshahi University, you have to take the route of Zero Point - Talaimari Main Road or Railgate - Talaimari Main Road. Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) is just in front of Talaimari more. The campus starts from the Kajla just in front of RUET. There many ways to enter, like Kajla Gate, Main Gate, Binodpur Gate and Fine Arts Gate to enter the university. You can enter and visit Rajshahi University through any of the gates you want.
