What is break-in period of motorcycle?

Though the engine parts of a motorcycle is build with great smoothness and all are fixed perfectly into the engines but sometimes the outlines can be unsmooth. Especially the piston rings need to be very smoother and except them the other machine parts inside the engine need to be smothering for perfect riding such as valve, cylinder bore, and piston ring etc. To bland those inner machine parts new motorcycles needed to be driven in few conditions for some times, and this period of time is called break-in period.









Types of break-in period:
1. Following the manual rules of motorcycle.
2. Shortcut process (not appreciable by all).

Following the manual rules of motorcycle:
Every single motorcycle contains different user manual and inside that manual book the time of break in period is given. If it is not found then you can know from the technician of the brand showroom. Generally the time of break in period is considered from 0-1000KM. Few people say that if someone want to increase the time then it is better. During break in period riders must ride their motorcycle by following few rules. Such as speed limit like 40-50 KM/H, ride without pillions, avoiding long journeys, after 200-300 Kilometers change the engine oil and do the same thing after 1000 kilometers. Remember that your bike manufacturers know better about your motorcycle so you must follow their user manual.

During Break-in period:
- Do not use the full throttle.
- Do not ride your bike constantly at same speed.
- Stay away from rapid speed increasing or decreasing and sudden braking.
- At least for 1000 kilometers ride the bike at half way mark at the speedometer.
- Use mineral engine oil and avoid synthetic oil during this time.
- After starting the engine let it be heat up properly.
- Check the engine temperature properly and make sure it is perfect as recommended.

Why use octane at break-in period?
Few experienced riders use octane for 200 kilometers at the break in period because at this time speed limitation and RMP is low and riders cannot ride for long times. Because of this reason engine does not heat up properly. Octane helps the engine heat up early and every engine parts works properly.

Shortcut process of break-in period:
After starting the motorcycle let it be in progress for 5 minutes. After that ride 10 kilometers at smoother road and the speed must be 40-50 KM/H. Take rest for 5 minutes and again ride as before you done. During this time stay away from braking. Now comes to the second step, ride your bike at off roads and insuring your safety increase the speed as much as you can. Decrease the speed and after few times later again increase. Ride around 100 kilometers like this and your break in period is over. Change the engine oil and remember this process is not expectable to all.

When break-in period is not needed?
At present almost every sports bike or superbikes are in ready to run situation. That means every “test run “is completed at the factory. For these bikes there is no extra break in period time but this is not for the cheap and low quality bikes. If the manufacturing company claims that they will provide this facility to all of their products then it is different.

After purchasing a motorbike it is quite difficult to drive this thing carefully and slowly, because it does not go with this kind of vehicle. But this enduring can give you a long lasting bike and smother bike riding experience and if you ride harsh from the beginning then your bikes durability and comfort will be compromised. Break-in period is very sensitive thing so for this reason according to user manual riding will be better and last option. The way motorcycle manufacturers instruct to do if someone goes with the opposite way then it will be a bad decision. Because of the upbringing of technology many rules are getting changed. It can be guessed that after few days motorcycles will be launched after “test run” inside the factory and it will be in ready to run condition.
